...so here are my thoughts.

This is what I think of Glower McMope, his fickleness, and his pettiness.  I hope either both his girlfriend and Our Heroine get a clue, or karma comes back and bites his sinewy ass in some other fashion.

Shoulders McSideline is still sidelined unless geomancy or cute antics are actively required.  I think they may still be 'shipteasing him with Our Heroine, but can't be entirely certain.

There was a birth-death juxtaposition.  The death was symbolic.

And the antagonists got one of the top contenders for baddest badass on the show

Oh, Internet [May. 3rd, 2012|01:38 pm]

Two things:  First of all, just because I don't appreciate a joke does not mean that I "don't get" it.  By a similar note, just because I disagree with your reasoning does not mean that I "don't understand" it.

So...kindly take your condescension and unwarranted sense of superiority, sit on it, and rotate.  Capisce?

Secondly, there was a particular petition I wanted to sign, but the site was being dorky and signing me in on hubby's account.  After finally getting it to behave itself, I just did a search for a couple of keywords.

And whaddya know...first result was the thing I was looking for.  The second?  Something entirely against the principles of the site.  In fact, it was outright discriminatory.

Further explanation; TW for bigotry.Collapse )

You can bet I reported it.  And at least, as of when I reported it, it only had seven signatures.  But even so: what the actual hell.

ETA:  Looks like it ain't the only discriminatory petition the guy started.  I reported the other one, too.

All WoW Forums Are An Even WORSE Joke [Apr. 22nd, 2012|02:43 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , ]

Apparently, pointing out that a character is a laundry list of bad female-character clichés—and little else—is a sign of internalized misogyny now.

Yeah.  That yutz didn't have a counter-argument, so he pulled a "you're the sexist!" on me.  What gall.

Really; you keep telling people you that you can't take them seriously.  But considering how bass-ackwards your logic is, I can't see one good reason why you should be taken seriously.  Just...stop, dude.  Quit while you're behind.

ETA:  Someone suggested that he should agree to disagree.  He instead opted to take a parting shot and flounce.

In conclusion, @Fighteer?  If this is about how you "hate to see poor argumentation stand" as you say—as opposed to some desperate need on your part to be "right" even (especially?) when you're not—please have the good grace to thump all of your own posts on the discussion.  Because really.

Incompetent Scammers Are Incompetent [Apr. 21st, 2012|03:06 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]

Those "Virtual PC Doctor" (or whatever) scammers just gave me a call.  And no, I didn't follow their directions:  Contrary to popular belief, I'm not clueless.  Suffice to say that I was Googling said tactic even as I was on the phone with them.

Besides, even before I was entirely certain that it was a scam, the caller struck me as annoyingly condescending—talked to me like I was a complete n00b who didn't know her way around a keyboard.

And to ice the failcake?  After I hung up on them the first time, they called me up again and got kind of aggressive.  There's something kind of gratifying about saying "you are scammers, and I'm onto you!"

Dear WoW fans: [Apr. 19th, 2012|10:59 pm]

Aggra is a complete zero.  She's a shallow love interest whose only characterization beyond the physical is "invalidating tsundere," and whose only concrete purpose in the story seems to be getting pregnant.  This makes her a pulsating wad of unfortunate implications on several levels.  I've read fanfics by people who don't even like the character1 that make her both deeper and a hell of a lot more sympathetic than she canonically is.

And getting butthurt at me for daring to think that this is a bad thing?  Jumping to conclusions in regards to my motives for disliking the character (i.e. either that I want every story to be a romance, or that I dislike her for not being a certain blond human mage whom I'm actually more likely to 'ship with her studies)?  Not helping your case at all.

1. Thus proving that there's a difference between liking a character and believing that she's potentially redeemable.  Personally, I think they're going to kill her off as soon as they need to hurt Thrall by proxy.

'Nother open letter to Blizzard, regarding Ji Firepaw [Apr. 15th, 2012|06:16 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

Someone found an NPC's dialogue with female characters in the pandaren starting area creepy, and complained about it.  I don't necessarily agree that it was creepy (just fatuous) but...fair enough.

You apparently agreed that it could be construed that way, and changed it.  Fair enough.

Now, some people are loudly demanding that the line be changed back—anyone who might have been disconcerted by it be damned.

I request this of you:  Before you consider reverting it, please take into consideration the phrasing of the initial complaints.  Compare and contrast that to the behavior and attitudes of the people complaining about the change.  And ask yourself: was the change for the best?

That is all for now.  (Well, that, and if you're going to be reverting anything to an earlier form?  Please, please start with female worgen.)

Personally, I wonder how many of the current complainers would be complaining just as loudly if Ji had become an equal-opportunity flirt.  Considering what I've seen in those threads—and in previous discussions—my guess would be "most of them."  (Considering many of them have made comparisons to the Dragon Age kerfuffle, it's amusing how much like "Bastal" some of them sound.)

So I make a statement in regards to why I haven't been able to acquire a certain product.  The fact that it's kind of expensive is one of my reasons.  Another is that even if money were no object, there's no guarantee that there would be any available that would actually work for me.

And someone feels the need to 'splain at me about following links and/or checking eBay.  After all, the item goes on sale all of the time.

Well, gee...ever consider that even if I can afford it, it doesn't do me any damn good unless I can actually use it?

(And yes, this is, in fact, another "I hate shoes" rant.  Companies that don't make size 5s can rot in hell.)

Counter-Intuitive As Hell [Mar. 15th, 2012|07:14 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I was re-visiting some of my old entries looking for something in particular, and ran across my old link to the Amazing Luxury Life (which might as well be called "Rich People Are Bizarre") blog.  And...I saw this

All I can think is "That's counter-intuitive as hell."  The damn thing weighs fifteen and a half pounds.  Now, granted, that may not sound like much; but last I checked, laptops weighing a third less were losing points for being unreasonably heavy.  And this is an Air, which normally would weigh about three.

So, really...does the platinum (which would be better used in the production of catalytic converters for car engines or something) improve the performance enough that it's worth quintupling the weight of the computer?  If not, there's scarcely an excuse for one of them to exist, much less five.

OMG FUZZBEARS [Mar. 12th, 2012|05:06 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

We've got a silhouette

And....they seem to be going with the "Hollywood pudgy" route:  Although the angle could skew things a bit, she appears to be slightly plumper than dwarves (if proportioned somewhat similarly).

Cue a predictable chorus of fanbeasties either moaning that she's too fat...or crowing (after all, she's not the caricature that they used as a strawman against those of us who give a damn about theme, and is in fact marginally slimmer than many of the more popular concept sketches) about how they "won."

As for those of us who wanted thematic, well...I can entirely understand why some people are jazzed.  I can also entirely understand why some people are disappointed.  As far as I'm concerned...well...she's not ideal, certainly.  I'd have preferred her somewhat rounder; after all, she's a damn bear.  But although I'm reserving judgment until we see her animations and customization options, she appears to at least be thematic—and therefore, somewhat better than I expected.  (And she's definitely not that teal-haired ferret, thank heaven.)

That's all.

On a somewhat related note: it's annoying to find out that someone whom I've ignore-listed for having nothing of value to say has the last post in any given discussion.  Sure, on the one hand, they merit no further attention.  But on the other...you just know that they're dense enough to interpret being ignored as believing that they've gotten in the last word and/or "won."

Random Shoe Rant [Mar. 7th, 2012|04:38 am]
[Tags|, , ]
[Current Mood |frustratedfrustrated]

So a few weeks ago, my old sandals crapped out on me.  And as a result of my attempts to replace the bastards, I've come to realize something:  Namely, I really hate shoes.

Or let me clarify:  I'm not fond of wearing them unless they're absolutely necessary (mostly because I have tiny, narrow-heeled, wide-toed feet that are difficult to fit properly).  I resent the fact that they're so often considered de rigeur even when they're not particularly necessary (plus, don't wear 'em in this town, and people think you're a hippie or a stoner).  And I don't so much dislike shopping for them as dislike the whole shoe industry...and here's where I get a bit vulgar about it.Collapse )

And the Brown Shoe Company—who, ironically enough, were the makers of the cushy, walnut-brown leather fisherman sandals that lasted me five years and actually fit my weird feet better than anything that wasn't custom-made—can especially choke on a rock:  They've since discontinued said sandals.  Everything they have now that's even vaguely similar is at least half again the price, isn't made in my size, is Naugahyde or something, or some combination of the above.

ETA:  I bid on some sandals on eBay, and look likely to win them.  Now, provided no one outbids me at the last minute, let's see if they're actually the advertised size.

That said, even prices on eBay are hiked sky-high.  Seriously:  $30 (shipping included, mind you) for secondhand sandals is ridonkulous in its own right, but there are some that are twice that (and the sellers won't take offers that should be perfectly reasonable for something that I know they're having no luck selling).

Also, I find the lack of most styles of these in smaller sizes disturbing.  Just saying.

MMO-Chump is on crack... [Mar. 3rd, 2012|07:31 pm]
[Tags|]

So I got warned for replying in an only slightly more polite fashion (as in, more "where the hell do you get off saying that shit?" than the outright insults to which he resorted) to some yutz who flamed me.  Okay, my bad there.  And they warned him as well, so no big deal.

Then, some troll jumps in the thread...except his initial post didn't look trollish, just ignorant and/or oblivious.  I reply to him quite civilly.  First he ad hominems me; then, he edits the post as to make it an outright flame.  I report him; he gets warned.

He proceeds to whine about his warning (which is a violation of the rules) and flame me again.  I report those posts, too, but pay him no further attention otherwise.

And...what the hell happens?  We both get suspended for a day for "not listening to mod warnings."

Mind you, it's only a day.  I still felt the need to appeal it on principle, because...they just either suspended me for reporting flame/troll posts, or for getting flamed.

Well, that, or...well, in one of the flame posts, he claimed that he was racking up the infractions while I was "talking shit" and getting away with it, and theorized that it was just because I was more active there.  (None of which, for the record, was true; again, I only replied to him once, and was perfectly civil about it.)  But it makes me suspect that they may have been trying make an example of me to "prove" that post count has nothing to do with it.

Ironically, they made it look like conduct has nothing to do with it, either.  What the hell.  And in before some dickweed coming here to gloat.
